What does S.T.A.R. mean?
Socialization, Training, Activity, and a Responsible owner. AKC’s program helps puppies and owners develop a foundation for everyday life and later Canine Good Citizen training.
The 20-item evaluation includes owner responsibility, puppy behavior, and beginning training skills. Examples include sitting, lying down, coming when called, walking on a leash, accepting handling, and responding to everyday distractions.
AKC requires a course lasting at least six weeks. ONL Wichita’s class includes seven weekly lessons. Purebred and mixed-breed puppies can participate.
Class completion and AKC recognition.
The program includes an evaluation involving an AKC-approved CGC evaluator. Passing teams receive the application for AKC recognition. AKC offers certificate and official title options; the title requires an AKC, PAL, or Canine Partners number. Attendance alone does not guarantee passing.
Ask our team about evaluation arrangements and any AKC application fees before enrolling.
