Behavior Modification Dog Training

Specialized Training for Dogs with Challenging Behaviors.

Does your dog bark non-stop at guests or lunge at other dogs on walks? Have they shown reactivity or aggression that makes everyday life stressful? Are you worried about resource guarding (protecting food or toys) or a bite history that you want to prevent from ever happening again? If any of these situations sound familiar, our behavior training program can help you and your dog regain peace and confidence.

Behavior modification training is a specialized approach for dogs (or even older puppies) that need more than basic obedience – they need help with serious behavioral issues. At Andover Dog Training Center, we look at the world through your dog’s eyes to understand why they act out. Then we create a custom plan to help your dog feel comfortable and happy in everyday situations. This isn’t just about “fixing” your dog – it’s about teaching them new, better habits and giving you the tools to guide them. Remember, the longer a bad behavior goes on, the more it becomes a habit. Don’t wait to get help – the sooner we start, the sooner you’ll see positive changes!

Customized Behavior Training for Lasting Change

Every dog is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution for behavioral issues. Our experienced, certified trainers will design a personalized training plan tailored to your dog’s needs. We commonly help with issues like aggression, leash reactivity, fear of strangers, excessive barking, and more. Whether your dog’s problem behaviors are mild or severe, we’ll adjust our methods to suit their personality and comfort level.

How is our approach different? We focus on positive reinforcement and proven balanced behavior modification techniques to change your dog’s emotional response and actions. Training can take place at our facility, or out in real-world locations – wherever your dog needs practice to overcome their triggers. By working in the environments where problems happen, we help your dog learn to behave calmly and appropriately in everyday life. Throughout the process, we make sure you (the owner) are involved and learning too, so you can confidently maintain your dog's progress.
Because behavioral training addresses complex issues, it often requires a longer commitment than a basic obedience class. Program length can vary (often a few weeks of consistent work), and we’ll be upfront in recommending what’s appropriate for your dog. We know investing in your dog’s training is a big decision – that’s why we provide an initial consultation and honest guidance on what it will take to see results.

How Our Behavior Modification Program Works

-
Initial Evaluation & First Session: Contact us to schedule a free evaluation of your dog. We’ll start by discussing your dog’s history, behavior challenges, and your goals. In this first meeting, our trainer meets you and your dog at our center — to observe their behavior in person. We’ll answer your questions and give you some initial tips to manage your dog right away. After assessing your dog, we’ll outline a training plan tailored to their needs. This first session is both an evaluation and the start of training, so you get value from day one.
-
Immersive Board & Train Experience:
Once your dog joins our reactive/aggressive board and train program, our trainers take over the day-to-day work to create structure, consistency, and calm behavior through multiple focused training sessions each day. Your dog will stay at our facility, where we work on reactivity triggers, confidence building, and obedience in both controlled settings and real-world environments around Andover. You’ll receive regular video and photo updates showing your dog’s progress throughout their stay. We also schedule multiple owner sessions during and after the program to ensure you understand your dog’s new training, can confidently handle them at home, and maintain long-term success. Our team remains available to answer questions and fine-tune your follow-up plan — because your dog’s transformation doesn’t end when they go home; that’s where it truly begins. -
Follow-Up & Ongoing Support: After your dog has completed the main program, we’ll schedule a follow-up session with you. In this meeting, we review your dog’s progress, fine-tune any remaining issues, and make sure you’re comfortable maintaining the training on your own. We’ll also address any new questions you have now that you’ve seen improvement. Graduation from the program doesn’t mean you’re on your own – we’re committed to your long-term success. Andover Dog Training Center offers ongoing support even after the formal training is over. If you find you need extra help or a refresher down the line, we’re just a phone call away and happy to schedule additional lessons as needed. Our goal is to ensure you and your dog continue to thrive together.
